Membership Activities:

British White Cattle will be on display for public viewing from Friday December 7 through Sunday December 9.  British White breeders, you are invited and encouraged to bring your cattle for display. We do not have a lot of advance advertising planned but private treaty sales will be allowed. We have plenty of room for display but please contact Morris in advance to plan penning arrangements.

Early arrivals on Saturday morning are welcome and encouraged. Program type activities are scheduled to begin about 10:30 am. We will have one program speaker before lunch and one after lunch and both will be presenting timely topics relating to beef cattle. One confirmed topic is GeneStar DNA testing for Tenderness, Carcass and Feed Efficiency.

Lunch at the farm will be complimentary. Menu will be "Catfish, Hushpuppies & French Fries, all cooked on site in open containers. We red-neck natives just refer to it as a "Fish Fry" but you might want to call it a "Texas Fish Fry." I promise no "Calf Fries", not even by special request.

One speaker after lunch, short break and then a membership business meeting. Main topic of business will be to elect 3 directors to serve 3 year terms. Directors whose terms are expiring in 2007 are Walter Bohaty, Curt Boles & Jimmie West. All three have agreed to serve another term if elected so the nominating committee is submitting their names for re-election. As always nominations may be made from the floor.

We will also try to squeeze in another one of our Fund Raising Auctions. It is requested that each member donate an item or two for the auction. Bring auction items with you to the barn.

Cattle will be available for viewing throughout the event and time permitting we will try to schedule a specific period of time with the owners available for questions and answers. In case of extremely bad weather we can pen the cattle inside the barn so you won't have to stay outside for extended periods of time enjoying the TTW. (Terrible Texas Weather)

Attention board members, at some point the BOD will have a short meeting, depending on time it could be before or after the night meal.

Night meal or banquet scheduled for 6:30 pm at "Carol's Red Apron", 124 South Woods, Sherman, TX. Carol is not open nights except for special events so we will have it all to ourselves. Anyone arriving later than 7:00 pm may go to bed hungry. Menu is one of our Texas favorites. Chicken Fried Steak, 2 vegetables, salad, coffee or tea and desert. Cost is $11.00 per person if paid in advance and $15.00 per person if paid on day of meeting. Make your checks payable to BWCAA and send to BWCAA Office, PO Box 281, Bells, TX 75414-0281. We need a good count no later than November 27 so we will know how much meat to order.

We are looking forward to seeing you the weekend of December 7, 8 & 9. Any ideas, suggestions or volunteer laborers will be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Morris Halliburton

PS. Jean is thinking (?) working on a door prize or two. Don't know just what yet but "Texas Pecans" might be a possibility. One or two might even find their way into the auction.

Membership Activities:

British White Cattle will be on display for public viewing from Friday December 7 through Sunday December 9.  British White breeders are invited and encouraged to bring cattle for display and/or For Sale By Private Treaty. We have planned a lot of advance public advertising but private treaty sales are encouraged. Please feel free to do your own advertising. We have plenty of room for Trailer Parking and Animal Display in separate pens, but please contact Morris in advance to plan penning arrangements.

Are you in the market for a few additions to your herd? Contact a fellow breeder and encourage them to bring animals for you to preview and bring your trailer. Save on some of that high fuel cost and make it a dual purpose trip.

A little update about the Auction Sale at Henderson, Texas on October 13, 2007

Thanks to Todd Smith and his guest consignors British White Cattle have been exposed to a lot of new folks. This exposure will be good for all British White breeders. Not only did it get the word out to a lot of people that were not familiar with British White Cattle it will also help to establish a base price for the cattle.
Overall we thought the sale was a success and prices were fair for the most part. Granted there were a few that sold for less than you could have bought them at the farms but the average was still ok.
We all know there is substantial risk and expense involved with holding such an event and someone has to be responsible. I want to personally thank Todd for being that person and yes he was nervous and lost a little sleep. Too bad he didn't lose weight.
Take a look at the numbers on the left too see why Todd may have been a little up tight. What if we had a Foot & Mouth epidemic about two days before sale?

Breeders who have confirmed that they will be bringing cattle are: Jimmie West, Colmesneil, Texas; Joe Bigbee, Ravenna, Texas; Todd Smith, Henderson, Texas; Harold Robinson, Star City, Arkansas; Bob & Carolyn Barbee, Snyder, Texas.

Harold says he will be bringing one of his Granddaughters show heifers and will be offering it for sale, also considering bringing a bull for sale. Call him at 870-628-3779 for more information.

Bob & Carolyn Barbee are new members. They purchased all of John Holt's cattle (Bohaty Breeding). They may have a couple bulls for sale but I suspect you would have to do some strong arm twisting for the females. Call them at 325-573-6733.

Joe Bigbee says he does not want to sell any of his right now but he may have spent all his money "Deer Hunting" or his wife may need a "New Dress" for Christmas. Call Joe at 903-583-4514.

Todd Smith and Jimmie West are both in deep central East Texas, Jimmie is about 100 miles deeper than Todd. Both are pretty quick to tell me they don't want to sell anything right now but I'll bet if you call either of them in advance they will sell you something and bring it. Jimmie runs an all grass & forage operation and always has some good bulls for sale. Call Jimmie at 409-837-2338.

Todd just recently sponsored a sale at public auction in Henderson and as a result 8 new breeders own British White Cattle. Proves once again our cattle are in demand, just get them out there where folks can see them. Call Todd at 903-854-4504, I know he didn't sell them all. Probably got some real beauties out behind the barn.

Most of the cattle will arrive and be available for viewing on Friday afternoon. Park your trailer here at the farm and get a quick look at the cattle. We would also encourage you to come early Saturday morning.

We have scheduled program type activities begin about 10:30 am. Clay Wright, Livestock Specialist with the Noble Foundation at Ardmore, Oklahoma will be on the program Saturday morning.  There will be plenty of time for questions and visiting before lunch.

For lunch a couple of younger Fishermen will be doing a complimentary "Fish Fry."  Menu will be "Catfish, Hushpuppies & French Fries, all cooked on site in open containers. Feel free to watch the cooks and ask questions, you may learn something about how "Red-Neck Texans" do a "Fish Fry."  Only request though, please don't ask for "Calf Fries" because Walter Bohaty said he could not bring any.

After lunch Dustin Dean with Bovigen will present a program on GeneStar DNA testing for Tenderness, Carcass and Feed Efficiency. If you have questions or any advance requests feel free to call Dustin at 806-789-6359. These DNA tests are fast becoming much asked for information about cattle being offered for sale, especially from commercial bull buyers. Some additional tools to not only learn more about your cattle but to also add value to them.  We should all do our best to learn as much as possible about GeneStar testing.

After Dustin we will take a short break and have a short membership business meeting. Main topic of business will be to elect 3 directors to serve 3 year terms. Directors whose terms are expiring in 2007 are Walter Bohaty, Curt Boles & Jimmie West. All three have agreed to serve another term if elected. The nominating committee is submitting their names to you for re-election. As always nominations may be made from the floor.

Colonel Todd Smith will again be holding one of our regular "Fund Raising Auctions." We would like to ask each member to donate at least one item for the auction. Bring auction items and an open pocketbook with you to the barn. We already have one great item donated; Mike Myers has donated an Embryo Flush, normal estimated cost depending on variables is around $800.00 or more. For more information you may call Mike on his cell phone at 817-597-6768. His office phone is 817-598-0014 but he can't reach it from behind a cow.

Feel free to preview the cattle anytime at your convenience and if time permits we will try to schedule a specific period and ask the owners to standby at their pens for questions and answers. December 8th is winter time in Texas but if needed the cattle can be penned inside the barn closed off from the outside elements except to the South.

Board members please remember we will need to have a short business meeting. Plans are to work out the most convenient time after you get here and keeping in mind that activities are first and foremost being planned for member's convenience and enjoyment.

VERY IMPORTANT!...  We need a good count no later than November 27 so Carol will know how many steaks to order. Word of mouth looks like about 30+ confirmations but not many meal tickets purchased so far.

We are looking forward to seeing you the weekend of December 7, 8 & 9. Any ideas, suggestions or volunteer laborers will be appreciated.

Please come and bring someone with you.

Morris Halliburton
